Our planet was here first, no doubt about that. When people started to populate its surface, nature faced a challenge when we started to exploit her intensively. Because in general economic growth is still our number one priority we are not only depleting all of our world's resources, at the same time we are producing enormous amounts of all kinds of waste and other organic residues at a fast pace, polluting our environment in the process. Until several decades ago the disastrous consequences of this priority were mainly limited to the wealthy, industrialized societies. But due to globalization nowadays even in the most distant corners of our world the pollution is clearly visible. Thus making it one of the global problems we are currently facing.
